According to the EPA, “Environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.” The transport industry can have a significant impact on underserved communities and as such the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) will host the third session of its Saving Money and Reducing Truck Emissions (SMARTE) Webinar Series, titled Environmental Justice and Trucking.
During this webinar, Dr. Kate Hyun, Civil Engineering Associate Professor with the University of Texas at Arlington, will discuss insights from a post-COVID forecast of future retail shopping activity and how last-mile deliveries impact different communities. NCTCOG Transportation Planner Collin Moffett will provide details on a methodology to evaluate the impact of freight land uses on underserved communities and how this can be resolved by public and private sector stakeholders. We greatly encourage trucking industry stakeholders, public officials and others interested in transport-based environmental justice impacts in the North Central Texas region to attend this webinar session.
